Olaudah Equiano also known as Gustavas Vassa was one of the prominent Africans involved with the ablosishing of the slave trade.



Equiano was born in 1745 in Eboe, in what is now Nigeria. When he was about eleven, Equiano was kidnapped. Equiano and his sisters were left at home to take care of the house and a human macrocosm and woman abducted them from their homes taking them far into the woods. They traveled yet and further away from the coast of Africa. In the society he lived in, it was usual for families to have slaves and his family had them as well. He came from a good beginning and his family had high hopes for him. They believed he would be a chief or judge. In his society men grew up to become enormous warriors.
