Hills Like White Elephants

The meaning of the word white in this story represents the purity of life, while the word elephant represents the object or objects that nobody wants to talk about (i.e. the elephant in the room). By the difference of the story it becomes clear that one character has succumbed to the pressure of some other character to deal an abortion.
Within the commencement moments of reading this story (and after formulaing at the title) we come to realize that the symbol in the story is the white elephants. The initial sentence of the story reads The hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white. This gives us the first clue that part of the symbolism of the story has to do with the color white. As we continue reading we come to find that there ar two main characters to this story; a man and a adult female. This story is set in Spain, while the man and cleaning woman are waiting for a train to come. They decide to have something to drink because it is so hot outside.
Shortly after the fit receives their drinks, the woman states They look like white elephants. She was referring to the line of hills in the distance.
To fully understand the meaning, identity, and symbols of the story one must first completely read the story. Throughout the story it is clear that the woman is upset about something.
