Dare to Dream

The play The Glass Menagerie shows the contrasted aliveness of the main character, tom Wingfield. Tom struggles with being a unassailable calculateer, a protector of his family, and a fulfiller of his dreams. Tom wishes to escape his dysfunctional family life and gain some sense of independence. He of necessity to feel a sense of adulthood. At clocks, Tom close up feels exchangeable a child because his mother, Amanda still tells him what to do. Tom is the man of the house and he must work everyday to support the family. He absolutely hates his job and knows that he can be doing so much more with his life. Im starting to boil inside. I know I seem dreamy, but inside-well, Im boiling! Whenever I pick up a shoe, I shudder a little thinking how short life is and what I am doing! Whatever that means, I know it doesnt mean shoes-except for something to wearing away on a travelers feet (1753). This shows Toms irritation towards his job and just how uncheerful it makes him. He knows that making shoes isnt what hes meant to do. He dreams of doing more.
