MIDWAY | A Winston-Salem woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 52 near Hickory channelise Road, utter Trooper J.M. Jackson of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Jackson said Mary Elizabeth Laughridge, 35, of Greer, S.C., the driver of a 2008 Dodge Magnum, was traveling in the right highway of U.S. Highway 52 North at milemarker 100, and a 1998 Toyota Camry, driven by Brittany Combs Hernandez, 21, of Hege Street, Winston-Salem, was in the left lane traveling northbound. He said Laughridge changed lanes and didnt see the Toyota Camry in her imposture spot.
The left rear corner of the Dodge Magnum tapped the Toyota Camry, causing the vehicle to go off on the shoulder, lose control and wheel over, Jackson said
All of the Dodges for that body class have a terrible blind spot because the back end is so short, Jackson said, noting that Laughridge told troopers she didnt see the Toyota Camry.
Jackson said Hernandez wasnt wearing a seat belt and ended up being detain low the car. He said the Toyota Camry rolled three or four times. He said both vehicles were traveling just about the posted limit.
The call concerning the crash was received at 2:19 p.m.
Jackson said Laughridge has been charged with misdemeanor end by motor vehicle and improper lane change. Laughridge was released under a written promise and has a court designation of Oct. 26.
