Race and Your Community June 12, 2011 Race and Your Community Discrimination and racial conflict in the small capital city Topeka Kansas have been a major concern for many years. The city is well-known for the drainage area United States Supreme Court case Brown versus display board of Education. Even after the 1954 ruling that it was unconstitutional to segregate schools, discrimination, and racial issues are still very prevalent in this city. With a total masses of 122,113 the majority of these citizens are Caucasian with a percentage rate of 78.5%. According to the United States 2010 census African Americans make up a small percentage of 11.7% and the Hispanics population is 8.9%. The citys atomic number 74 side is predominantly Whites, whereas on the southeast and east side of town there is a mixture of African Americans, Hispanics, and Caucasians, while a good human action live below the poverty level. I grew up on the cities southeast side in a small friendship called Highland Park, which has forever lacked the existence of economic development compared to the cities west side. I am African American and many of the people in my community look like me. The neighborhood consists of works class people who work hard to make ends piece each month.

Although officials in the community hypothetical state that carry is not a factor in my community, racism, discrimination, and stereotyping run seawall and is still common in the community and amongst its leaders. I unexpended Topeka 13 years ago, and until recently I returned and was out(p) by what had become of my neighborhood. Homes that was previously beautiful with well manicured lawns as of now many of these same homes are uninhabited with graffito painted boards as windows, the beautiful lawns have been replaced with patches of weeds, clumps of dirt, clothes, broken glass, and trash.
