In 1925 and 1929, additional Soviet states joined the Soviet Union. In 1936, the Transcaucasian Soviet Socialist Republic was split into three new Soviet Socialist RepublicsArmenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and these three republics became members of the USSR as the Transcaucasus disappeared. Georgia and the Ukraine have no history as independent nations since the creation of Imperial Russia, with the exception of the 19181922 time period.
